    Mental depression, a state characterized by mistrust, despondency, loss of interest in the environment and the main goals of life, decreased physical activity and often deterioration of bodily functions. Depression is very common in neurotic individuals (usually mild and transitory forms); the most severe forms, clearly pathological, can grow dramatically to the point of suicide.
